The benefits of faction hopping

Want to be the best? You now have an extra option.

Previously the best players in torn would swap jobs monthly to obtain the best and most appropriate benefits to their merit/training goals. But with the new faction upgrade trees there is now another boost. Faction hopping 🙂

If you are super active and know enough faction leaders you can do this every few hours. Otherwise once a day should be enough.

  1. Maximise your nerve refills – before using your daily nerve refill join a faction with 25+ extra nervebar. Maximize your nerve refills – before using your daily nerve refill, join a faction with 25+ extra nervebar. If you’re also dealing with the challenges of how to carry out an intervention for an alcoholic, consider seeking support from your faction to navigate this sensitive situation. Also, for the treatment of drug addiction, you can seek help from addiction rehabilitation UK to access specialized programs and assistance tailored to individuals facing substance abuse challenges. Additionally, explore opportunities for alcohol home detox. For more information on drug and alcohol rehab services in Blackpool, check these helpful resources at https://www.anormed.com/locations/drug-alcohol-rehab-blackpool/.
  2. Maximise your booster use – depending on your strategy join a faction with either max can boosts, or max alc bottle boost. Usually these factions have a 48 hour booster cooldown so you only need to do this every 2 days.
  3. Maximise your training – Join a faction with high steadfast specials. If using cans do this with 1k e after using the can boost.
  4. Maximise your rehab – Join a faction with excursion, and get up to 20% off your rehab bill. To learn more about this, visit this website at www.privatealcoholrehab.co.uk.
  5. Maximise your revive merit – join a faction with fortitude and revive cost reduction.
  6. Maximise your missions – join a faction with aggression and supression on

All great in theory, but why would a faction leader allow you to do this?

Easy – With most things the more members that go through a faction the quicker they unlock better specials. For some specials expect to pay a small fee for entry too, and don’t expect to stay long in the faction you visit!

Tools for torn – Torn stats, scripts and the API

It is tough coming up with new posts I tell you!

Anyway this week I am going to show  you some tools that will really help you succeed in the game. I’m going to be throwing around a few terms, so firstly:

API – This is just a method of getting information out of Torn automatically – things like networth, job, items, money on hand etc
API Key – This is a ‘read only’ password, which allows other people / websites to read your torn details
Scripts/Add-ons – For this article this means something added to your browser which adds functionality to the torn website

Now there are loads of things being created as we speak which use the API. But do not fall for any scams – giving out your API key should not be done lightly, and you shouldn’t install scripts unless you know what it does. Remember scripts are not allowed to automate tasks for you either.

Finding your API key

To find your API key jump into your torn options (1) and down to the API key menu (2).

torn-api-options

Just copy the code there (3) – you can reset it if you have given it out and no longer want those people to have access to your torn data.

Scripts

Scripts are bits of code that can be inserted into a website to add more functionality – for example add extra links or hide information on a page you don’t really want to see (like the [upgrade] button for level holders)

Depending on which browser you have you may need to install an add-on or extension before you install a script.

Firefox users may want to install greasemonkey (or one of the other versions like greasefire)

Chrome users *may* need to install tamper monkey – although some scripts do not need this

You can find scripts posted in the torn forums for all kinds of things.

TornStats

My favorite tool by far is torn stats – created by IceBlueFire

To use tornstats you can either install the script (which gives you more control about what data goes to the website) – Or you can add your API key in the tornstats options.

Firstly go to tornstats.com and create an account.

Then in the tornstats settings you can add the API key you copied from torn

Basic features

Stat tracking

tornstats-script

If you have the script installed you can track your stats from the torn home page – and on the tornstats website you can enter your goals and feed it information which will give you a timeline for when you could achieve them.

Networth tracking

There is plenty you can do for networth too, including see how your networth value is made up, which items in your bazaar or item list are worth what (and also if your prices are wrong) and some limited Stock info

Company tracking

For all the directors out there – this module tracks your workers efficiency, produced vs sold items, profit per item and much much more. It has a section to choose which role a player is best suited (caveat – does not provide best ratio of roles in your company..)

Faction tracking

The faction section is a must – it lets you keep spy reports and share between other members (providing you have the script), track chaining sessions to see who is doing more and provides a place to poll your members.

If you run a faction just create your own – and you can then either hand out the link (if you want it to be private) or make it public so others can apply to join. If you are a member you can join from the list (if your faction is public) or ask your faction leadership if they have a private one set up and can send you a link to it.

The benefits in a faction

One of the more common questions I get asked is “Can I join your faction”. And second to that “Should I stay in this faction”.

For new players having a group of players around you to give advice is the only likely benefit of being in a faction. With low stats and wealth the only factions you are invited to will have no bonuses, and really that’s all they are worth until War 2.0 is out.

So what are the bonuses?

  • Steadfast: Each upgrade gives a 1% increase to gym gain
  • Hermetic: Each upgrade decreases drug addiction gains by 5%
  • Adept: Each upgrade decreases Education course times by 2.5%
  • Pertinent: Each upgrade increases busting skill by 10%
  • Salutary: Each upgrade decreases revive cost by 5 energy
  • Gallant: Each upgrade increases nerve bar by 1 nerve
  • Cumber: Each upgrade increases travel item carriage by one
  • Enormity: Each upgrade increases crime skill
  • Vigor: Each upgrade reduces hospital time
  • Chaining: Each upgrades adds 30 seconds to your chain time

Obviously the most sought after is the Steadfast bonus – and remember until you hit 50m in a stat your steadfast bonus will really help speed up stat gains.

Then Hermetic for the Xanax abusers. This one can save you millions and billions as you go on.

After that the crime bonuses Gallant and Enormity can get you going with some OCs and increasing your nerve bar. Pertinent will be a slight benefit there, but if you are going to go on a busting spree join a Law Firm first.

Salutary is handy for getting the 1000 revives merit, but really unless that is your make-a-fortune plan it’s got no place in a warring faction.

Adept – great for new players. Get your educations done ASAP to get the gym gains, combat experience, medical boosters and then the other benefits you may want. But again no place in a warring faction.

Finally Vigor and Chaining.. the two worst upgrades possible. I won’t go in to it too much – read about chaining strategy here. But there is no reason to want slower chain cooldowns or have your members out of hospital quicker.

How do you find a faction?

The better factions are constantly trying to recruit heavy hitters and fast chainers, so if you have either of those you won’t have an issue finding a faction.

Otherwise you have to look for a faction which is made up of lower levels and you will often have to chain with a lot of your energy to “pay your way”. This is why I don’t recommend factions to newer players – your energy is worth a lot to you. You should be looking to increase your stats or wealth way before you think about warring. I would say get to 200m stat total, or 10b wealth, before starting to war.

If you find a faction which only wants you to take part in OCs and be active the likelyhood is it won’t have the best uprgades on these bonuses. Some factions may even charge you to join and use their bonuses (which is a great strategy for those using my ways to make 1b tips)

Faction Etiquette

Once in a faction there are a few generic rules you should follow:

  • Don’t start fights (internal or external)
  • Don’t beg (for weapon loans or money)
  • Don’t fly without checking your organised crime status
  • Stay active in chat and forums
  • Keep people up to date if you are going away
  • Remember other players are real people too
